Oveview

Southview Elementary is a pioneer of Project-Based Learning (PBL), and that spirit drives everything we do. Under the leadership of Principal Rebecca Parks, Ed.D., our teachers design hands-on units that start with an authentic question, challenge students to collaborate and create, and culminate in meaningful learning. Walk our halls on any given day and you might see young engineers building flood-resistant houses, budding authors critiquing drafts in a writer’s workshop, and fourth-graders pitching solutions to real community partners.

A Track Record of Outstanding Achievement

State-leading results. In 2024, Southview earned 96.5% of all possible Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP 6) points, a double-digit jump from 86.3% just one year earlier.

Mastery across the board. Students captured 100% of the available performance points in English language arts, mathematics and science, and they repeated that perfect score in every growth measure.

Ready and present every day. Southview posted perfect 100% scores for both Kindergarten Entry Assessment readiness and attendance, evidence that families value what happens here and make learning a priority.

Learning Environment & Culture

  • Student-Centered PBL: Because of our long focus on Project Based Learning, our staff mentors colleagues across the district, ensuring rigorous, collaborative, inquiry-driven lessons are the norm from day one.
  • Whole-Child Focus: Daily social-emotional learning, house meetings, and leadership roles build confidence and community.
  • Family Partnerships: A vibrant PTO, parent experts who serve as project mentors, and events such as Celebration of Learning nights keep families deeply engaged.
  • Community Connections: Partnerships with local businesses, the KSD Foundation, and civic organizations give projects real-world relevance.
